Dear Parents,

Curtis High School is happy to announce that we will be beginning the AVID program this spring term with students in the class of 2013.  What is AVID?  It is an acronym which stands for Achievement Via Individual Determination.  It is a system to prepare students who are in the academic middle for college.

AVID students attend an AVID elective class taught by an AVID trained teacher. The three main components of the program are academic instruction, moral support, and motivational activities.  AVID students see their self-image improve as they improve academically.  Roughly 75% of AVID students are accepted into four year universities. In addition, students selected for AVID will receive laptop computers in an effort to organize their schoolwork.

We look forward to educating you more on this exciting new opportunity. Members of the AVID site team will be there to answer your questions and to address your concerns pertaining to AVID. We hope to see you there!

Sincerely,
